Unscripted Tours Adds Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum to Historic DC Lineup
The National Museum of Civil War Medicine and Unscripted Tours are excited to announce the addition of the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum to the tour group’s highly popular historical tours. The Museum joins a unique lineup of off-the-beaten path sites in the group’s new Hidden Downtown DC tour. Future tours may focus on Washington, D.C.-sites related to the Civil War and women’s history.
The Hidden Downton DC tours will launch Friday, December 6. Tickets are available online now.
Located in the heart of Washington, D.C., the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum is the restored boarding house Barton lived in, used to store supplies for soldiers during the Civil War, and operated as an office to assist families in locating missing soldiers after the war. Barton and a small staff sifted through a staggering number of letters and records between 1865 and 1868, identifying more than 22,000 missing soldiers. The site is managed and administered by the National Museum of Civil War Medicine.
“The Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office truly is one of Washington, D.C.’s hidden gems. We’re excited to share her story with new visitors through these guided tours by Unscripted Tours,” said CBMSO Site Administrator Madeleine Thompson.
“We’re thrilled to add the Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office to our tour offerings,” said Andrew Hartsmith, Director of Operations for Unscripted Tours. “This addition will give our guests an extraordinary glimpse into a lesser known, yet incredibly important, chapter of American history.”
The Clara Barton Missing Soldiers Office Museum is open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. for walk-ins.
