Join us for a members-only walking tour at Arlington National Cemetery, visiting the final resting places of the women who served as Civil War nurses. Meet Dorothea Dix’s recruits and the volunteers of the Sanitary and Christian Commissions through the true stories of the women who lie here: a nurse who survived smallpox and yellow fever to become one of the first women doctors in Washington, D.C.; a Union spy turned battlefield nurse; and a nurse aboard a hospital transport ship who marched in the Grand Review of the Union Army. Along the way, we’ll stop at the Civil War Unknowns Monument and hear how Clara Barton’s Missing Soldiers Office brought closure to thousands of families searching for their missing loved ones. This is a unique opportunity to visit the women who nursed a nation back from war and hear their stories.
