SUMMARY:Civil War Nurses at Arlington: Women Who Healed a Nation
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a members-only walking tour at Arlington National Cemetery\, visiting the final resting places of the women who served as Civil War nurses. Meet Dorothea Dix’s recruits and the volunteers of the Sanitary and Christian Commissions through the true stories of the women who lie here: a nurse who survived smallpox and yellow fever to become one of the first women doctors in Washington\, D.C.; a Union spy turned battlefield nurse; and a nurse aboard a hospital transport ship who marched in the Grand Review of the Union Army. Along the way\, we’ll stop at the Civil War Unknowns Monument and hear how Clara Barton’s Missing Soldiers Office brought closure to thousands of families searching for their missing loved ones. This is a unique opportunity to visit the women who nursed a nation back from war and hear their stories. \nThis walking tour is FREE for members\, but reservations are required and may be made HERE. \nThis walking tour is members-only. To learn more about Membership or to sign up\, learn more HERE. \nThe tour begins at the Old Post Chapel Gate within Arlington National Cemetery. Please plan accordingly for passing through security and traveling to the Old Post Chapel Gate ahead of the 10AM start time. \n
